Niagara, Ontario – In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Niagara Nepali Samaj successfully organized a special webinar titled “From Surviving to Thriving: A Conversation on Mental Health” on Saturday, May 30. The webinar was held with the objective of promoting open discussions on mental health within the community, raising awareness, and fostering a supportive environment for individuals experiencing mental health challenges. The event was conducted virtually via Zoom and was also streamed live on Facebook, allowing wider community participation.

The session was facilitated by Rom Kanta Sapkota, while the keynote speaker was Shreya Upadhyaya, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and an MA (Hons.) graduate in Counselling Psychology. She is currently employed with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) of Canada. During the one-hour interactive session, participants gained valuable insights into mental health, anxiety, depression, stress management, and emotional well-being. The webinar also provided an opportunity for attendees to share their experiences and ask questions in an open and supportive setting.
Niagara Nepali Samaj expressed its belief that programs of this nature play an important role in increasing mental health awareness within the community and encouraging individuals to seek support without hesitation when needed. The organization further stated its commitment to continuing similar initiatives in the future, focusing on health, education, and the overall well-being of the community. The webinar received notable participation from members of the Nepali community residing in Canada, the United States, Nepal, and several other countries.
