NNS Hosts Vibrant Summer Picnic and Children’s Activities

Niagara-on-the-Lake, June 28, 2025 — The Niagara Nepali Samaj (NNS) successfully organized its annual Summer Picnic and Children’s Activities on Saturday, June 28, bringing together around 170 members of the Nepali community from the Niagara Region. The event was held at the scenic Queenston Heights Park, offering a stunning view and a refreshing atmosphere for families and individuals to unwind and reconnect.

The day-long event kicked off at 11:30 AM and continued until 8:30 PM, filled with laughter, games, food, and cultural celebration. The participants were welcomed with light refreshments including tea, samosas, and pakoras, followed by a generous lunch featuring chicken barbecue, hot dogs, corn on the cob, pizza, burgers, and fresh watermelon. Most of the food and drinks were generously sponsored by local community members, entrepreneurs, and well-wishers. While one part of the event buzzed with delicious food and conversations, the other side was alive with fun games and activities. Popular events such as bingo, raffles, musical chair race, and the traditional ‘breaking the pot’ game brought enthusiastic participation from both adults and children. A nostalgic round of marble games played by the adults rekindled memories of their childhood days in Nepal, adding a heartfelt touch to the day. For children, the event was packed with engaging and colorful activities, including face painting, soccer, hot potato, and various fun competitions designed to keep the younger attendees entertained and involved.

The picnic concluded with a special cultural moment: the serving of dahi-chiura (yogurt and beaten rice), marking the traditional celebration of Asaar 15 (Asaar Pandra), a day significant in Nepali culture for honoring farmers and the monsoon season. Niagara Nepali Samaj expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, volunteers, and sponsors who contributed to the success of the event. It was a memorable day that brought the community closer, celebrated cultural heritage, and provided a joyful space for all generations to come together.
